Marc Hamandjian et autres dans RAR Weekend, Rouen
Marc Hamandjian‘s universe can be situated somewhere between utopia and science fiction.
His hybrid vehicles and habitats are immaculately white, waiting to explore or to be explored while the titles of his work often make allusion to another cosmos that in fact might be terrestrial after all. Influenced by the humor and ironie of Philip K. Dick a “conceptual distance” causes “a problem of recognition” for the viewer due to a strategy of confusion between references and the recuperation of unusual and incongruous elements (1).
His work is currently on show at Galerie Bertran in Rouen on the occasion of the RAR Weekend alongside top 19th-century works from the School of Rouen in ceramics by Zoe Autin. Under the curatorship of Zélie Doffémont, this yearly event has, for the first time, invited contemporary artists to exhibit their work at various antique dealers, which each time results in intriguing exchanges. Apart from Hamandjian, one can thus also discover the furniture assemblages of Laurent Martin at Polar Decor, the minimalist sculptures of Kacha Legrand at Galerie Guillaume Fouquet, or the enigmatic paintings of Léon Chotard at Etienne Malleville.

L’univers de Marc Hamandjian se situe quelque part entre l’utopie et la science-fiction.
Ses véhicules et habitats hybrides sont d’un blanc immaculé, prêts à explorer ou à être explorés, tandis que les titres de ses œuvres font souvent allusion à un autre cosmos qui pourrait bien être terrestre après tout. Influencé par l’humour et l’ironie de Philip K. Dick, une « distance conceptuelle » provoque « un problème de reconnaissance » chez le spectateur, grâce à une stratégie de confusion entre les références et la récupération d’éléments inhabituels et incongrus (1).
Son travail est actuellement exposé à la Galerie Bertran à Rouen à l’occasion du RAR Weekend, aux côtés d’œuvres majeures du XIXe siècle de l’École de Rouen en céramique par Zoe Autin. Sous le commissariat de Zélie Doffémont, cet événement annuel a, pour la première fois, invité des artistes contemporains à exposer leur travail chez divers antiquaires, ce qui donne à chaque fois lieu à des échanges intrigants. Outre Hamandjian, on peut ainsi découvrir les assemblages de mobilier de Laurent Martin chez Polar Decor, les sculptures minimalistes de Kacha Legrand à la Galerie Guillaume Fouquet, ou encore les peintures énigmatiques de Léon Chotard chez Étienne Malleville.
