Notions of Slow Curating

I recently got asked by someone who had visited my blog whether I was still active since my last post dated from August 2013. That is indeed a while ago but I can confirm I have been very active, mostly in my role as a programme leader that went full-time in September. My curatorial practice resides mainly in that role but recently I have also developed a new project with a collective of colleagues and friends around the importance of slow and something I would like to call ‘slow curating’. This moves away from the typical rat race of constant production of which I have been a part for a long time. Producing up to seven shows a year left however little room for proper reflection. My move to Plymouth and the decision to start a PhD all came from that desire to have time to reflect.

The current project, that is not for immediate publication just yet, brings a lot together of what I have been doing ever since I moved here. A place for deep, combined thinking with like minded art practitioners, thinkers, researchers & teachers.  One of the participants in this project, Robyn Woolston, tweeted this process this morning as “weaving thoughts • planting seeds • writing visions • deep time”. Which chimes well with this recent interview.

So yes, I am still active. Maybe even more than ever. Just possibly not at the pace the art world usually expects.

More to follow at some point or other. In the meantime Happy 2014 and Year of the Horse!
