Last Saturday we opened the project in Jabbeke. Lucy + Jorge Orta visited the Baliehof in Jabbeke and were inspired by framers Luc and Krista Callemeyns devotion to their farm and durability. They created a new work for which several milk containers that they collected over the years were moulded in aluminum. These were then painted white and presented on the black glass shelf.
Some of the containers come from the Baliehof and are used to sell the farms milk in. This new piece means an important start of a new series on essential foodware and the livelihood of local farmers.
In the brand new store of Baliehof they show “Orta Water Vitrine” from 2005. This work points to the water shortage in the world and is linked to the theme of water distribution and accessibility. It is part of the large Orta Water Project for which the artists worked amongst others in Venice and Rotterdam.
On show until 19 September at Permekemuseum, Gistelsteenweg 341, 8490 Jabbeke – Tue-Sun 10:00-12:30/13:30-18:00 and at Baliehof, Gistelsteenweg 577, 8490 Jabbeke every day by appointment on +32 (0)50 81 11 02 or baliehof@scarlet.be
