trajector art fair update 24.04

Yet another city, yet another hotel. I enter my room, unpack my suitcases. I want this place to be mine for a few days. So along with my usual luggage, I also brought my “portable home”, my version of Duchamp’s ‘boîte-en-valise’. It contains some of my favourarite portable art pieces by Alexandra Dementieva, Peter Hulsmans, Nathalie Hunter, Gorik Lindemans, Stefaan Quix and Michèle Noach. After installing them this room will be no longer just a place to sleep. It will be my own temporary quirky home away from home.
So I fill the bath with Alexandra’s balloons, connect the camera with the tv and let the water run; I lay Peter’s ‘maps’ out on the bed; I put Nathalies drawings of scènes in my house on the ridge above the bed; I install Stefaan’s sound installation underneath it and put his sugar sculptures in the corner of the room and in the bathroom; I install Gorik’s red and white plastic tape curtain just behind the door (or just in front of it – it all depends on where you are), lay his photobooks on the table and write on his request three of my favourite citations on the mirrors: Cicero’s “If you have a garden and a library you have everything you need”, Swift’s “Promises and pie-crusts are made to be broken” and Sieber’s “Speculative thought has no sidelines at which to place ourselves to watch it run its course”. Finally I put on Michèle’s scented candle. This should do. Maybe I’ll just stay here…

There was a party last night I did not go to because I was too tired. We had a lot of good comments – people liked the fact that we kept the room as it is and had a concept for it.
It took me a while to go to sleep, partly because of the noise, partly because I had to get used sleeping in an exhibition.

This morning I possibly had the most expensive breakfast ever – it was nice but tomorrow I’ll just will take it at the train station. Nathalie came early to pick me up for a walk. She has made all the pictures inserted here.
